Veronica’s
mother
|
accused, tried,
and executed for witchcraft in 1627
|
All information
except the fact of her execution has been fictionalized based on early modern
German stereotypes of female witches.

Anna Maria |
Veronica’s
sister; nun

Took vows at
Convent of the Holy Sepulchre at Bamberg.
|
Minimal. I estimated the degree of closeness between
Veronica and Anna based on the assumption that Anna had been at the convent
for several years.

One of the last

Hans Georg
|
Veronica’s
brother
|
Junius’ false
confession included a story of his demon ordering him to kill his son, Hans,
but he he said he’d killed a horse instead.
|
Hans’ age was a
complete guess based on the assumption that the letter would have been addressed
to him if he assumed the position of head of household in Junius’ absence. As
the letter was not addressed to him, I assumed he was too young to take on
those responsibilities, yet I wanted him old enough to create tension with
Veronica. He is about 12 years old in
the blog.

Johannes Junius
(father)
|
Veronica’s
father; burgomaster; witch
|
Long-time city
councillor, age fifty-three, serving as burgomaster for the fourth time,
accused by Georg Adam Haan. Arrested
28 June, tortured 30 June, confessed 5 July, wrote letter 24 July, executed 6
August. Devout Catholic. The letter
reveals that he was very close to Veronica.
|
I guessed the
degree to which he may have supported or rejected the witch hunt before his
own arrest based on the tone of his letter.
This suggested that while he may have held some doubts, he was still
shocked at the violation of legal procedure that occurred during his trial.

Completely
fictional, though given the rates of child mortality in the early modern
period it is entirely likely that Veronica had siblings who died before
reaching adulthood.

the necessary adult male guardian for Veronica and Hans once their father was

trusted relative.
